Anderlecht suffered a shock defeat tonight in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League second qualifying round. The mauves were strong favourites, but were beaten 2-1 at home by BATE Borisov.
BATE forward Rodionov had the game's first chance with a shot that whistled narrowly past Zítka's post. In the second half the gained the upper hand when good work between Losada and Boussoufa ended with Gillet rifling in to make it 1-0.
However, two minutes later Wasilewski committed a fault on Nekhaychik in the penalty area. As Wasilewski left the field for his second yellow card, BATE drew level from the penalty spot, Kryvets making it 1-1. In the closing moments, Nekhaychik made the difference from 20 metres after being given too much space: 1-2.
