Constant Vanden Stock has passed away Saturday afternoon. The honorary chairman would've turned 94 in June. With Vanden Stock, RSC Anderlecht and Belgian football lose a true monument. He was chairman of the club for 25 years.

Constant Vanden Stock started his career in football as a player. He appeared for the two most succesful clubs of Brussels, RSC Anderlecht and Union. He quit his career as a player to focus on the family's succesful brewery.

But his passion for the sport remained. In 1959 he became selector for the Belgian national team, a position he held for ten years. Briefly he took a position at Club Bruges after a dispute with Anderlecht.

However, he soon returned to the club of his heart. In 1971 he took over the position of chairman of RSC Anderlecht from Albert Roosens. It is as chairman that he will be remembered by the Belgian football fans. Under his wing the club achieved its biggest successes, winning ten national titles, seven Belgian Cups and three European Cups.

In 1996 his son Roger Vanden Stock took over the reins as chairman. Although Mister Constant took a step aside, he remained an influence and guarded over the club's values. The club's stadium continues to carry Constant Vanden Stock's name.

Anderlecht-online would like to express its deepest condolences to the Vanden Stock family.
